Czeck Disgusted with Treatment of Relative
I have found your website describing people's experience when working in Southwestern Company. Let me introduce myself. I am from the Czech Republic living in the UK for some time and last week I got a call from my relative begging me for help that his son is working in the UK and got in trouble.
He was recruited to sell books for this company and it is needless to say that this was his first trip abroad. He was literally mortified to find himself sleeping in some old lady's house sharing one room with other two Czech boys and busy schedule to run.
After 2 weeks of not having sold a book he had no other option but leave with his last £10 and he was lucky I was there. When he arrived and explain to me what this was about I got absolutely furious how exploitative this whole business is living on young student's dreams.
I searched on the Internet to read some reviews and found your website and thought I should let you know that they have now moved to the Eastern Europe. On their own website they describe this as 'growing internationally' but I think they take advantage of not having to pay any overheads as the student have to fund themselves and also distribute the books in the area. This is crazy as he cannot afford a car.
Also, what is the point of selling books under such conditions when people in the UK go to Amazon.com and order it from there. Some of the titles he was selling were cheaper there than the sales price but of course he cannot be aware of this as he is Czech and doesn't know the local market. His friends are already on their way home enriched of this truly life experience.
To be honest I am utterly disgusted by this company's activities.
