Emotional Toll on Student
I am so thankful that you have this site up. I agree with you that there is a need for this information on the internet in today's world. I spent the summer of 1998 on the bookfield and barely made it. I made some money and am proud that I lasted that long, but like you said, it was tough on my soul and emotionally. It's hard to work that many hours and be brainwashed into thinking you're a failure if you don't want to work 85 hours a week and have 95% of the people whose homes you go to slam the door in your face. It's a tough job. The toughest job I've ever had. I know you can make money at it. I had a lot of friends make good money, but I would never recommend it to someone as a summer job. As I think back to my summer, it could have ended up so dangerous for me. I was just a naive southern girl and was placed in Massachusetts, and totally unprepared for what to expect. Thank GOD nothing happened to me. We were taught to get in people's homes and sit down with them to show the books.
Please, don't do this job.
